Polytechnic University receives software donation HK$1.625M from C&T's GO-Business

The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU) has recently received a major donation of over HK$1.625 million worth of an award-winning e-Tendering software from the locally-listed Computer And Technologies Holdings Ltd (C&T)’s subsidary Global e-Business Services Ltd (GO-Business).

Expressing his gratitude, Prof. Andrew Baldwin, Chair Professor and Head of PolyU’s Department of Building and Real Estates, said this donation from a leading information technology services provider not only signified the continuous support of industry towards the University, but also provided a strong boost to the teaching and research facilities of the department.

Under the donation agreement, 20 software licenses of the proprietary e-Tendering application software developed by GO-Business will be given to PolyU for free. This benefaction will provide postgraduate students studying construction and information technology with opportunity of using this popular business software.

GO-Business e-Tendering solution is widely adopted in the industry and by the Government, and its major clients include leading companies such as Shui On Construction & Materials Ltd, MTR and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council. The application of GO-Business e-Tendering solutions for the SAR Government has also been featured by the University of Hong Kong’s Centre for Asian Business Cases as one of the 130 case studies and included by the Harvard Business School Publishing in its MBA Syllabus.

In addition, GO-Business e-Tendering solutions have won various awards and recognitions both globally and internationally, including a Certificate of Merit (2nd Prize) – E-Commerce Category in the regional Asia Pacific Information Communication Technology Award (APICTA) in 2003, two Certificates of Merit for Stockholm Challenge in 2001 and 2002, and a Certificate of Merit at the IT Excellence Award 2002 organised by the Hong Kong Computer Society.

The University’s Department of Building and Real Estates has established close partnerships with industry by offering its expertise. In 2002, Associate Professor Dr Andy Wong Kam-din completed a large-scale consultancy study, in collaboration with GO-Business, on the provision of a Computerized Registration Management System for the Government’s Construction Personnel Registration System.
